Updated for December 2019
Koh Chang is the second largest island of Thailand, one of the most beautiful islands with white sand beaches which half of them are deserted. Located in Trat province, it’s also a home of various wildlife such as rare birds, deers, snakes, elephants, etc.
While the majority of the visitors who make their way to Koh Chang are more interested by beach activities and island exploring in daytime, this doesn’t mean the activities to do in this charming island are limited to water sports only. The best spot for female companionship and action is to explore the twenty or so beer bars of “Little Pattaya” located on the South end of White Sand Beach. Some discos places are also a bit further down the road.

Baan Ton Rak Boutique Resort ★★★ $24 avg/night
36/10/9 Moo 4, White Sand Beach, Koh Chang, Thailand
Location: The Baan Ton Rak Boutique Resort is a very well kept 6 rooms resort on Pearl beach about 1.5km south from the main White Sands beach and the little Pattaya beer bars. The rooms offer all the basic amenities such as air conditioning, TV, WiFi, in room safe and a shower with good hot and cold water. The ares surrounding the hotel are well looked after and provide a very relaxing atmosphere with the plants, fountains and beautiful stone carvings and there are plenty of areas with comfortable seats to sit and relax. Rent a scooter for 150 THB a day and head off to the beach, or if you do decide to walk, go to the little Pattaya beer bars along the way and stop off at one of for a breather.
Guest Friendly policy reply by Baan Ton Rak Boutique Resort: “Hello, it is no problem for us. Our rooms prizes are for 2 persons. Your are welcome. For more extra pers. 400 bath. Best regards, Heinz and Anja, Baan Ton Rak Boutique Resort.”
Alina Grande Hotel & Resort ★★ $29 avg/night
9/10 Moo 4, White Sand Beach, Koh Chang, Thailand
Location: The Alina Grande Hotel & Resort is two seperate hotels, mix of bungalows and traditional rooms with balconies. The resort whilst not the newest is exceptionally clean, centrally located with direct beach access, every room have air conditioning. Excellent value for money. The Alina Grande, newer hillside complex, is just a few years old. Everything here is more spacious and modern and personally although you will pay a little more it is worth it for the extra room comfort. Both offer clean, quality accommodation. Good choice, but in the end all depends if you want to go for a little more money and luxury or direct beach access.
Guest Friendly policy reply by the Alina Grande Hotel & Resort: “No charge with your girl from bar but if possible please tell our receptionist for her ID for your security. Kind Regards, Miss Phichamol Phiphatcharamaetheekul.”
Paddy’s Palms Resort ★★★ $29 avg/night
9/99 Moo 4 , White Sand Beach, Koh Chang, Thailand
Location: The Paddy’s Palm Resort located only 10 minutes walk from White Sands Beach and even closer from all of the nightlife venues and just a stone’s throw away from Little Pattaya’s dozen or so beer bar enclave. Deluxe room, I usually book for 900 THB ($23) are modern, clean and spacious with a big comfortable king sized bed, TV with a great selection of English speaking channels, quiet and powerful air conditioning, small refridgerator, plenty of storage for luggage and clothes, free WiFi and a small balcony area with table and chairs. The western style bathroom had a seperate shower and toilet. Free buffet breakfast (served at the restaurant with cereals and fruit, bacon, eggs and toast with as much juice, tea and coffee) is also included in the price. Not to forget their nice little pool area to the side of the hotel with rarely any people around making it a great place to relax on a hot day. For me a place highly recommended.
Guest Friendly policy reply from the Paddy’s Palms Resort: “Their website’s booking & inquiry engine has been down for a few months so there is no way for me to provide you an adequate official response but I can assure you for personally having been here many times (latest in October 2012) that this hotel is very guest friendly. In fact at around 10PM the reception counter closes (so while I never tried with more than two girls at a time) you could probably get away bringing the whole staff from any given beer bars without anyone noticing.”
Top Resort ★★★ $29 avg/night
24/45 Moo 4, White Sand Beach, Koh Chang, Thailand
Location: The Top Resort towers is set on a cliff at the south end of White Sand Beach, amidst stunning gardens in a quiet area with super view to the sea. Although it is a 10 minute walk to the beach, it is conveniently situated right next to the dozen of girly bars that Koh Chang has to offer. With a super swimming pool there are three types of accommodation offered, hotel rooms in the main building, bungalows with garden and sea view, or villas over the top of the cliff that face the gulf. Prices start from around 25$ for basic rooms in the low season to over 100$ for the high end villas in peak season. All the rooms are minimal in furnishings with air conditioning and fans, TV with good selection of English channels, refridgerator fully stocked with drinks, electronic in room safe and bathrooms with hot water showers. Great place for people visiting for the first time as the staff speak impeccable English.
Guest Friendly policy reply from Top Resort: “We do not have a joining fee, even we not ask for the ID card of your guest. But please be aware that you are responsible for your guest. Best regards from the warm and sunny Koh Chang. Flora.”
Buffalo Bill Hotel Koh Chang ★★★ $35 avg/night
9/6 Moo 4, White Sand Beach, Koh Chang, Thailand
Location: The Buffalo Bill Hotel is in a pub and steakhouse about 50 meters from the northern part of white sandy beach. The hotel and standard rooms that have an American/Western theme are good with all the basic essentials such as, air conditioning, refridgerator, safe, free WiFi internet and a decent hot and cold shower. The only downside is that the popular Sabay bar is just across the road and the live music can be a nuisance if you are wanting to get an early nights sleep. But with the close proximity to the beach and prices in the low 1000 THB range this is a great option if the other more popular resorts are already booked.
Guest Friendly policy reply by the Buffalo Bill Hotel Koh Chang: “Hi, if you are more then 18, you can bring to your room anyone you like for no additional fee Pierre Gallemaert Hotel & Restaurant Manager.”
Keeree Ele Hotel Koh Chang ★★★ $52 avg/night
9/100 Moo 4, White Sand Beach, Koh Chang, Thailand
Location: The Keeree ele’ Hotel is a modern hotel located a little hill a good 10 minute walk from the beach but less than 5 minutes away from the dozen beer bars of “Little Pattaya”. Hotel and rooms are beautifully decorated offer sea views on one side and mountains on the other, both if you stay in a deluxe one. My deluxe room I booked was huge with spacious bedroom and bathroom both very stylish and elegant, offering air conditioning, cable TV, mini bar, refridgerator, large balcony or terrace and a shower and bath. The thing missing was a safe and WiFi, however these were both available in the lobby, but you would expect them to be in room for the price range. The hotel also had a beautiful small swimming pool with sun loungers available. Globally I think this place is little expensive for all the amenities offered but Agoda do run regular promotions which would be worth taking advantage of for staying here.
Guest Friendly policy reply from the Keeree Ele Hotel Koh Chang: “Greeting from Keeree Ele Hotel Koh Chang. Our small hotel strives to make your holidays special so we allow you to come with your (unregistered) guest and not necessary to leave her ID at the reception but I would like to inform you that our hotel will not be responsible for any loss/or damage to your belongings besides it becomes apparent that the hotel or the hotel staff have acted carelessly or negligently and you are requested to beware of your any valuables.”
Banpu Koh Chang Hotel ★★★ $58 avg/night
9/11 Moo 4, White Sand Beach, Koh Chang, Thailand
Location: The Banpu Koh Chang Hotel is an other little hideaway resort centraly located on the White Sands Beach and the little Pattaya beer bars. Both styles of accommodation (rooms which are in the main two floor buildings or bungalows that are scattered around the stunning tropical gardens) are very clean, spacious and well furnished offering air conditioning, mini bar, safe, TV, mosquito nets and balconies. They also have great showers with hot and cold water in abundance. Unlike the other resorts locally the Banpu is not over crowded so there is a lovely feeling of intimacy. The swimming pool area is lovely and just 20 meters from the beach. The staff are really helpful and very friendly. The only downsides are that the WiFi is not free and expensive (at 100 THB for an hour) and the limited channels available on the TV. However if you can live without these then I would highly recommend this resort.
Guest Friendly policy reply by the Banpu Koh Chang Hotel: “Dear Sir, We will no charge for the third party for your booking. Looking forward to serve you Wuttipong Sripinyo (gm).”
Koh Chang Grand View Resort ★★★ $61 avg/night
9/3 Moo 4, A. Koh Chang, White Sand Beach, Koh Chang, Thailand
Location: The Koh Chang Grandview Resort sits at the southern tip of White sands in a really peaceful spot just a short walk from the beach, bars, restaurants and shops. Sea view bungalows where I stayed (and I would personnaly recommand, as those on the road are a little uninspiring) was very clean and spacious with all the furnishings you could need : lovely big bed, flat screen TV with one hundred (but most of them in Thai), air conditioning, mini bar, desk and a great hot and cold shower. Wi-Fi was working fine in the lobby and in the rooms as stated. The staff are very friendly however their English is very limited. The resort also had a lovely swimming pool near to the beach end.
Guest Friendly policy reply from the Koh Chang Grand View Resort: “Our policy has no charge for your extra guest and only keep record for your pastport & ID card of your guest by copy. We do for your security. We try to do by the short time for your check in like stay your home. If you have any question please do not hesitate to cotact me. Best regards, Supichai Keardpimai -Resident Manager.”
